A sample journey
Twelve days in Tanzania & Zanzibar
Day 1: Arusha. Arrive and rest at a coffee estate lodge
Days 2–3: Ngorongoro Crater. Game drives in the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera
Days 4–8: The Serengeti. Tented camp, private drives, and an optional hot air balloon at sunrise
Days 9–12: Zanzibar. Beachfront villa, Stone Town, and turquoise water
Every safari is custom. This is simply a starting point.
When to go
Timing is everything
June–October: dry season with excellent wildlife viewing. Most popular.
July–October: Great Migration river crossings in the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara.
January–March: calving season in the southern Serengeti, with thousands of newborn animals.
Book 9–12 months ahead. The best small camps have very few tents and sell out early.
Safari with children
Is safari right for my family?
Absolutely, with the right planning. Some camps set minimum ages for game drives or walking safaris, so we choose family-friendly lodges with private vehicles, flexible schedules, and activities children love. For younger children, South Africa offers malaria-free reserves, such as those in the Eastern Cape.
